About Tate, before Renee
How We Met
We met on Match.com. Both of us had been on Match for a few months and were ready to quit. I had been through several bad dates and was going to take a break. Tate was also ready to quit. He sent me a message and upon first glances, we had NOTHING in common. He was very outdoorsy and I definitely was NOT. I was into professional sports (Kings and 49ers) and he definitely was NOT. The only thing we had in common was that we both enjoyed country dancing. Of course, to this date we have only country danced once or twice. We met for lunch at the Sheep Herder's Inn in Rancho Cordova which was close to both his home and my work. After a very nice lunch where he brought me a yellow rose from his rose bush (Yellow Rose of Texas) we parted with a hug. Later, he asked if he could see me for drinks that night. Even though I had a concert to go to that evening, I agreed to meet him for a drink. He took me to a little park near his house where he brought a bottle of wine and a blanket. We sat under the tree, sipped wine and talked. Then we smootched... it started to rain and we smootched some more. After a while and a lot of rain, I had to go. We both were soaked. On our second date, he took me for a motorcycle ride through the foothills. The rest is history. WHEN
WE GOT ENGAGED
HOW IT HAPPENED We were in Mexico for my Brother's wedding. On our first night there, we set off for a walk on the beach after dinner. It was a long walk down this long passage way between hotels but we finally made it to the beach. It was a lovely night, the breeze had picked up and I could feel the ocean spray on my face as we walked along the water line. Unfortunately, there wasn't any moonlight that evening so it was pretty dark. We sat down on some of the hotel lounge chairs and looked out into the darkness and listened to the waves crash against the sand. He had brought a portable music player and pulled it out so we could listen to some music. After about 30 minutes of just sitting and talking, we headed back for the hotel. On the way back down the long passageway, we stopped and sat on a bench so he could get the sand out of his shoes. He pulled out the music again and played a song for me. I hadn't heard the song before so I listened to the tune and enjoyed it. Apparently, I wasn't really paying attention to the words because he kept telling me to really listen. He started the song over several times so I could really hear what it had to say. He explained to me how much the words of the song meant to him and how much he loved me. Then he got down on his knee and asked me to be with him forever and to be his wife. I cried, he cried and I gladly said YES. He then opened the box containing the ring that we had looked at several months before and that I fell in love with. It was absolutely beautiful. We then headed back to the hotel to wake up my mother and tell her the good news. I couldn't wait to get back to the States so that I could tell everyone else.
